TikTok Ban Upheld By U.S. Supreme Court

What could happen next

The Supreme Court upheld the federal law banning TikTok unless it's sold by its China-based parent company due to national security concerns. The law will render the app unworkable for new users, but existing users won't lose access immediately. President-elect Donald Trump and Senate Republicans have criticized TikTok's Chinese owner for not finding a buyer. The law, passed in April, aims to address national security concerns about TikTok's data collection practices and relationship with China. ByteDance has said it won't sell, but some investors, including Steven Mnuchin and Frank McCourt, have shown interest.
