FDA Bans Red No. 3

Artificial coloring used in beverages, candy and other foods must be removed by 2027

The FDA has banned the dye Red 3 from the nation's food supply due to potential cancer risks, following a petition from food safety advocates. The dye, also known as erythrosine, was found to cause cancer in lab rats, prompting the FDA to remove it from approved color additives in foods and medicines. Food manufacturers have until 2027 to remove Red 3 from their products, with consumer advocates praising the decision. While some countries still allow the dye, the ban aligns with efforts to protect consumers from potentially harmful additives.
