The battle is on between SUNY Albany's Great Dane Damien and SUNY Oneonta's Dragon Red!
After weeks of intense competition, we’re down to the final round of SUNY’s Mascot Madness, the annual tournament to determine the most beloved mascot in the SUNY system. Starting with 35 mascots, the field has narrowed to two fierce contenders: Red, the spirited mascot from SUNY Oneonta, and Damien, the mighty Great Dane from UAlbany. This is the 12th year of the competition, with Red having claimed victory in 2021, while Damien is still seeking his first title. The stakes have been raised even higher this year, as the university presidents have entered a friendly wager. If Damien wins, SUNY Oneonta President Cardelle will send a feast of Brooks BBQ and cold cheese pizza to UAlbany. On the other hand, if Red takes the crown, UAlbany President Rodriguez will deliver Cider Belly Doughnuts and mozzarella sticks with Melba sauce to SUNY Oneonta.
Voting for the final round is now open online and will continue until 2:00 pm Thursday, April 3rd. Fans of both mascots can cast their vote and show their support for either the fiery dragon or the determined Great Dane. To vote and have your voice heard in this thrilling competition, visit SUNY.edu/MascotMadness. It’s time to decide who will take the title in this year’s Mascot Madness!
