Post Malone, Jelly Roll, Doja Cat, and Blackpink's Lisa performed at the 2024 Global Citizen Festival in Central Park on Saturday (September 28). Ed Sheeran and Chris Martin surprised the crowd with an acoustic show. The traded vocals on each other’s hit songs starting with Coldplay's “Yellow” with Sheeran on lead vocals, followed by a duet of Sheeran's “Shape of You.” Both artists, armed with acoustic guitars, then performed Coldplay's “Viva la Vida” (with Martin making monkey noises as a tribute to Dr. Jane Goodall) before the surprise set, which ended with a piano rendition of Sheeran's “Thinking of You.” Martin, active with Global Citizen, was only announced as a speaker at Saturday's event. “I’d like to say how impressed I’ve been all day watching you be an incredible audience in the most challenging of circumstances,” Martin addressed the rainy gathering. This year’s Global Citizen also featured sets by Raye, Benson Boone, and Rauw Alejandro, as well as appearances by host Hugh Jackman, Jane Goodall, Bill Nye, Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and more.
